MyShipowners – Intranet platform

The Shipowners’ Club is a mutual insurance association offering Protection & Indemnity (P&I), Legal Costs Cover and associated insurances to smaller and specialist vessel owners, operators and charterers around the world. Folllowing a review with an external consultancy, the HR team were advised that it would be beneficial for the society to digitise their performance management process rather than keeping all the records manually.

They wanted a system which linked directly to role profiles and competencies and allowed staff to create, amend and archive plans. Base 8 delivered to the exact requirements and specifications of Shipowners, who were so pleased that they then requested that we expend the web application to provide Internal Communications, Ideas generation, Department specific information sharing, Policy Documentation, Total Reward Statement and e-learning functionality.

Five years later, Shipowners asked us to undertake a refresh of the platform

The design and user experience were greatly improved by opting for a cleaner, more modern approach. The site was far more engaging with some additional features added to support the end user finding what they wanted easily through enhanced predictive search, the addition of a favourites section and a recently viewed facility. Overall usage increased, especially within the communications section and we received high praise from senior stakeholders.

The app has proved to be such a success that it has recently been turned into the organisations Intranet accessed through and integrated with their Active Directory.
